Carpe Diem: 2020.03.3 Another Surrender

by James A. Clapp

America’s string of military surrenders masquerading as peace treaties remains intact. After 19 years of war in Afghanistan America has decided to wave the white flag and pretend it has effected a peace treaty with the Taliban. This is the same kind of joke peace treaty that came out of the Paris peace talks on Vietnam that was orchestrated by that other Porky Secretary of State and certifiable war criminal, Henry Kissinger.  The US is a country that just can’t seem to learn the lesson: people who have no place to go are going to fight you until you are ready to give up and go. Like Korea, or Vietnam, which was eventually taken over completely by the communist north, these are defeats for the world’s latest imperialist and international racist bully.  So, the best you can try to accomplish is to make it look like a peace deal on your terms. But the Taliban will be there long after, and they will achieve everything this phony Trump deal supposedly got in the bargain.  Of course, it’s really only about Trump’s political popularity, not a democracy, women’s rights, or the burning of poppy fields in Afghanistan. Like the man said, “America first . . . and last, and always,” even in surrender.

Should have got out when McCain said we need to be there for the next 100 years.
